Artist's Comments

Made for about 23 years, the Citroen Traction Avant still maintains its look of aristocracy. This 1953 example looked pretty good, even in the awful light that I shot it in.

Keeping up with the position and turn signal lights must be fun with these. There are three sets of different bulbs on it, not counting the headlights.

I always try to stretch and find ways to pull the cars and bikes that I shoot out of the jammed-in muddle that I usually find them in. On a bright day with a few light clouds thrown in the sky, I can usually get them looking pretty fine. This day was just miserable with little bits of weak sunlight, and mostly overcast, and only a few heavy low clouds rolling by. It made things difficult to get good shots.

Shooting cars is easy, since we see them every day on the streets. But how to make them look more dramatic is a bit tougher One of the easiest ways is to get to a front corner and plonk your butt down on the ground and shoot from there. Another way is to get as low as you can. I don't do this at cruise nights because I'd get run over, but if I can get a car all by itself with no chance of stray traffic, I'll roll all over the ground to get those shots if I have to.

i was thinking, maybe in a field of flowers you get 1 flower in focus and the rest out of focus, just think bout it ^^

With photos that's done in two ways. You can narrow the depth of field so only what you want is in focus, but it's a bit tricky with cars since you have to look carefully in the viewfinder. A good example is the pic of two of my kids on my page. everything behind them is out of focus. Another way is to do it in the editing after the shot. But either way you get more powerful results if you have good light. This pic works in a darker way because the car has a bit of Art Deco styling to it. The dark day might have helped this one since the paint was dull black. It would have looked odd in a sunny meadow where a custom car would have gleamed...

Yes. I think if you had one of these land in your garage you'd have to come to some acceptance of what it is. I don't know if you could fit anything wider, and who knows what that would do to the quirky thing?
